glass fusing

May 18th, 2005

Last night was my first glass fusing class. I really enjoyed it. I had seen some sushi plates for auction a few years ago at the craft center and wanted to learn how to make them. So I started making my plates last night. And I managed to get them finished and into the kiln for the first firing. When they are done I will post pictures.

The point is, that I love working with my hands. It doesn’t matter what I am doing, I just like doing it. On my way back from coffee this morning I was trying to devise a way to make a queen size head board and footboard that would look similar to my full size head board. I have this really great furniture that I bought at an estate sale before I moved out to CA. It is the art deco set that includes a dresser, vanity, head board and foot board. It is awesome. It is dark wood, with a light wood inlayed in stripes down the front. Right now I live in a house where I have access to tools in order to recreate it. I wonder how expensive it will be.

Regardless, part of me can’t wait to be out of school in order to work on crafts more often and part of me doesn’t want to go because the craft center on campus is really awesome and I love learning things there. So far I have taken wheel throwing, paper making, weaving, and glass fusing. There is a welding class that I think I will take before I graduate.

  1. Guess I need to enroll at the school if I want to learn to be all crafty. :)

  2. Oh, also, can I place an order for some sushi plates?
