Guess what?

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Today is my BIRTHDAY! That is right. This little meeshmellow is working her way up to her 30’s. This is the big 2-8.

Leave me a note! I know you are reading. I went and posted on a Saturday. It is the least you can do.

And in exchange I will post pictures of my really really RED hair on Monday morning. Plus highlights of my small but wonderfully exciting birthday party.

Breaking up is hard to do.

So today I resigned from my job at the environmental consulting place. It was bittersweet. I would much rather work there than be at school, but my boss won’t go for that. So this was my only option. But it will be nice to have all of this extra “free time” (a.k.a. time to work on my “dissertation”).

Are you that Fünke everyone is talking about?

For all those who have seen the Fünke around the water cooler episode of Arrested Development, you understand. I feel like that Fünke.

Apparently at the potential job offering company, I have been the “talk around the water cooler”. How do I know this, you ask, without bugging the place?

Well I will tell you……One of the guys I worked with a few months ago on a freelance graphic design project for the said company emailed me. He heard I was interested in the position and that he looks forward to working with me AND…… and that he put a good word in for me. To which I responded, it is always nice to have someone pullin’ for ya. I really hope this all pans out. I now have three people pullin’ for me to get the job, including the person who would be my boss. I sent my cover letter and resume and a blood sample, so hopefully I will hear something soon.

The baby gifts.

Lots of people in my life are popping buns out of the oven. So I have been keeping myself busy with embroidery and sewing and other random crafty goodness. This blanket was one of about six that I produced. There were two fireman ones sans embroidery, one froggie one and two from a long time ago that I just don’t remember. This is the only one I embroidered with the baby’s name.

Once the blankets got a little old, I decided to try making a mobile. So I made three little felt birds and one little felt cloud. In this picture I hadn’t gone through and fixed the birds so that they were weighted correctly. The final proect looked much more finished without the seams showing and the birds being balanced. Winemonkey’s roommate let me borrow his drill and saw so that I could cut the dowel rods. I sanded them slightly and then hung the felt things using fishing line. I thought it turned out pretty cute. I think the next one is going to be fish-inspired. Mostly because I already have the fish cut out.

So my friends, start having babies! I have more ideas!

p.s. I should really take lots more pictures of the crafts that I make. For Christmas I made these awesome necklace sets for my mom, sister, aunt, and Winemonkey’s mom. I also made some scarves, hats, and soap. Oh - and a fleece quilt for my sister, which I will post a picture of later.

“Oh Buffy, the yacht club? What a lovely idea.”

For as excited as I was, I can’t believe I didn’t mention this BEFORE the event. On Friday night Winemonkey and I rented a hotel room in San Francisco because we had been invited to the St. Francis Yacht Club for a crab feed. We were invited by his former bosses (a married couple who owned the winery) and were accomplanied by the winemaker and his girlfriend (of same name… lots of “Rochelle Rochelle” jokes). I had a seriously good time. It had been a while since I had done anything remotely pretentious with my life. And since I had been to the city with Winemonkey.

The other Michie and I sat by one another during dinner. She turned out to be a little nerdy too and we had a great time chatting. I only wish I had gotten her contact information, but alas, we had made plans for breakies the next morning so I figured I would wait until then. However, when the morning came, we all mutually bailed on the breakfast. Maybe it was the magnum of Sicilian red wine the five of us drank at A16. Or the bottle of dessert wine. It certainly could have been the shots of Johnny Walker Winemonkey I did at the Buena Vista at the end of the night.

Regardless of the shots, it was a great weekend. We were going to go to the DeYoung museum on Saturday, but instead got cheese at the Cowgirl Creamery then drove through Sausalito and Tiburon. It was really quite beautiful.

To be honest, we did som uch this weekend… so I will stop boring you. =)

But I hope you all had a good weekend too.

Hallucinations.

Yesterday I ended up going home around 1 pm. I had nothing to do at my part time job and I didn’t want to stay at school for fear that I would get roped into doing other things. So I decided to work from home. And I did turn on my computer… just didn’t really work.

But I started reading this book called the Power of Now. And I read for about 2 hours and then I kind of just laid there. And I let my hands sink into my bed and I visualized that I was laying on a table, just looking at things and noticing my breath and body. And I started hyperventilating in my visualization and my sister told me that my breathing was crazy. Then I brought myself back to my bed and I was breathing just fine. I was “out of it” for about 1.5 hours. It was really strange. I don’t want to say that I took a nap or I fell asleep and was dreaming because the whole time I was conscious that I was looking at myself laying on this table. And I could still feel the bed underneath me.

So that leads me to hallucinating. That is what it had to be. Or maybe I was truly being in the Now. Seems unlikely though. But on the bright side, it has made me feel a little more connected. And that is always a good thing.
