New Reads

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I am wondering if anyone can suggest some funny blogs to me. It could be your own. It could be your sister’s. I would be particularly interested in any blogs written by graduate students, but anything humorous or well-written would do.

Thanks!

Because I am determined to have one of you buy something from my site, I am going to keep posting what I put up in my Etsy store. Okay, that isn’t true. I just want you to see my crafty goodness. Because what else do I do with my time? Grade lab reports for 18 eager students? Analyze data to see if I can graduate? Prepare lectures for the very same 18 eager students that don’t suck ass? Have I ever struck you as an over-achiever?

No, seriously. It is only Tuesday and I feel like I have been following a well-laid plan. I wanted to post something slightly new on Etsy at least 3 days this week. I wanted to get through my presentation yesterday afternoon. I wanted to get my experiments set up and taken care of today. I have two more things on my checklist today and I think that I am moving along just fine. There was a minor set back when my sister and I watched two episodes of Sex in the City instead of me grading papers. And another minor set back when I decided I wanted to talk to my friends in other states instead of grading papers. But you know what? The papers will be graded tonight! GEEZ!

And this Thursday I have dinner plans with my “new” friends. And by “new friends” I mean people I know through Winemonkey and his roommates who I am trying to get to know better because soon I will be living in their town and I don’t know anyone there. And that makes me nervous. But knowing that I will be able to afford movers makes the move seem all that less stressful. Except for the no friends in town part.

Soon to be published.

That’s right. I am going to be a published writer soon. =)

Not for anything funny, or particularly fun for that matter. In fact, not a single one of you will probably EVER come across it. But the scientific world will become one research paper richer when “Laboratory Study of Simulated Atmospheric Transformations of Chromium in Ultrafine Combustion Aerosol Particles” is out on the news stands.

It is like another big hurdle was just taken care of. And I only have two more to go. Beautiful.

Not only did I run into the ex, but I ran into two other people I normally don’t see out and about ON THE SAME DAY AS THE EX. One, my neighbor driving around in his airporter van and two, a guy who my new employer wanted to “fix me up with” a few months ago. I saw him at a bar I normally never go to. Neither of the two were as traumatizing as seeing the ex though, which is good.

Small world.

The population of Sacramento County is: 1,352,445.
The land area of Sacramento County is: 966.
Persons per square mile: 1,267.

In a county as big as Sacramento it would be nearly impossible to run into someone with whom you have not had contact with in over a year, by accident. All stars would have to align for this to occur. Today was the day.

I knew it would happen eventually. It has come close to happening before. I mean with a roommate of one of my friends including him on her myspace friend list and all. But I just really wasn’t expecting it to happen today.

I was happily driving along on a stretch of freeway, not only at a time when I normally don’t drive it, but also a section I tend to avoid. I look in my rearview mirror and see a motorcycle similar to my ex’s. Low and behold, he pulls up next to me and it is him. My heart starts racing and I start to panic, it was like a shot of adrenaline (think Pulp Fiction). I am hoping that he turns off. He doesn’t. He stays either a little ahead of me or a little behind me for at least a good 6 miles. Until the exit I know he is going to take comes up (where he goes to school)……and as chance would have it, it was my exit too. So here we are sitting at a red light next to each other, knowing who were are, yet not saying anything.

I turn to my destination and he continues onto his, without a word. This is pretty much how the relationship ended.

On a separate, but related note, I really should play the lottery today. (One in a million, right?)

I have been talking non-stop about how much soap I have been making. I thought I would just post some pictures of the products. I think this weekend I will get a little bit of crafting done since Winemonkey is fairly immobile because of his knee. It is good, because I have a lot of ideas and the more supplies I use and sell now means less supplies I will have to move at the end of March.

So without further ado, here are the current items:
