Sophisti-ma-cated Dream Analysis
February 16th, 2006I went to see my life coach today. I told her about the weirdest dream ever and she said, “that is the most powerful dream I have ever heard from a client.” She then proceeded to tell me why……..and let me tell ya, her dream analysis skills are way more sophist-ma-cated than mine.
1. The church and the church attic- a sign of enlightenment and my higher power or self.
2. Litter box and toilet - a sign of all the shit I have had to endure in the past.
3. Stairs in decending material order - my step back to reality and my roots.
4. The man chasing me - my fears haunting me and trying to catch up to me.
5. My hovering at the bottom - becoming one with my higher self.
6. The man who was chasing me standing at the bottom landing staring at me not wanting to come near me - I have conquered my fears and now I am at peace with myself.
Wow. Seriously this dream has been such a turning point in the way I have been thinking lately. I can’t even begin to explain it. It really is like this cloud has been lifted. I feel like I am myself again and I havent felt that way in quite some time. I get the chills talking and writing about it that is how powerful and significant it feels right now.

1. The church and the church attic- Churches are perceived as clean, warm, inviting and sacrosant places. Attics are generally dark, spooky, and full of hidden things. Maybe the “church of you”, with its open and accessible portion visible to all has an attic of darker things that you are beginning to explore.
2. Litter box and toilet - Perhaps representative of unresolved or revisited issues from your childhood (re: anal phase). The litter box is Id focused; feces generally left by the cat in or around the box, depending on the cleanliness of the cat. The more it is there too see, the greater the Id indulgence of pure enjoyment. The toilet is your Superego trying to negotiate between pure indulgence and socially acceptable behavior. The fact that these two things are in your attic seems to me to represent something that you are working on under (or over) the orderly and socially acceptable church.
3. Stairs in decending material order - Materials are your interest in design and pattern/texture manifest in the church of you. Your interests are epressed in socially acceptable ways such as career choices, but are derived from a basic desire to indulge in something.
4. The man chasing me - Fear. What good is a dream without a little fear?
5. My hovering at the bottom - Hovering is neither flying nor walking; it is sort of a state of limbo. Perhaps you are not completely at a polemic; maybe hovering is your sense of occupying two states at once. This can be good or bad, depending on how you want to perceive it. Instead of jumping completely into one state or another, you are strategically riding the fence between grounded sensibility (walking) and carefree throwing-caution-to-the-wind danger seeking (flying).
6. The man who was chasing me standing at the bottom landing staring at me not wanting to come near me - The fear of addressing the conflict between your Id and Superego manifested by the litterbox and the toilet followed you down the staircase of your Ego to the point where you had to make a decision on how to progress. You chose not to discard one or the other, but to aknowledge the existence of this dichotomy of self by hovering out of reach of the fear. The fear is there, it will come back, but it is just as much a part of this church as the stairs, the littlebox, the toilet, and the church proper. But fear is a neccessary element of our Ego. It is a tool the Ego uses to measure response between the Superego and the Id. Without fear, we would only indulge ourselves. With too much fear, we would never address those elements of self which remain in our subconcious or preconcious. You are achieving a healthy balance.
Or if you don’t believe in all this Freudian bullshit, you just ate something that didn’t agree with you.
