Well… not really. But maybe we could call it “Another day in Accomplishment City.” I have finished the laundry, made a delicious tomato salad, cleaned the kitchen, and gotten checks signed so that all I have to do is head out the door to the bank.
This past weekend was great. My sister helped me shop for some new clothes and for the first time in a few months I have what I feel are fashionable, well-fitting clothes. Unfortunately, this success led to a set-back in the financial department. But I am really hoping that I can get my shit together and get myself into some networking situations. It is amazing how looking nice can make you feel better and happier.
Because not only did I spend an awesome weekend with Sheesha playing games, drinking wine, and shopping, but I also went to the CAREER COUNSELOR. And she told me that I am doing everything right, I just need to network more. She said that I was a good writer (obviously she hasn’t seen my blog full of typos and bad grammar) and that I seemed to tackle each letter and resume with finesse to match the job description. She also said that it was just a matter of time and to not give up. Three months into the job search is generally when people start getting calls back. So it has been three months.
She also told me that 1 out of 600 resumes leads to am interview. 1 out of 12 informational interviews leads to a job.
So I am hunting down professional organizations where I might meet people in my line of work or doing something that I would like to do.
Funny thing about the career counselor – when she looked at some of my resumes, my bullets were different in different sections and in one case I had put my education twice. She laughed and said that it was a good thing that I didn’t use the phrase “pays close attention to detail” anywhere to describe myself! But I am going to go back and fix those mistakes.
