Now, having been a teacher who had to teach the concept of significant figures and precision, I find little things funny that would usually go unnoticed. For example, there is a house for sale not far from me, and the sign says: Approximately 1.170 Acres.

There is nothing approximate about 1.170. That number tells me that they are confident of the acreage to the thousandths decimal place.
