I Want to Break Free

June 25th, 2008

Lately the job has been tolerable. The low checking account not so much. I have been fighting to be bumped up a level in the pay scale at work. It will be well worth the effort if it works. It would mean a substantial increase in my monthly pay. You know, putting me in the pay range a PhD deserves.

I know that I shouldn’t feel entitled to things because I am a doctor. But when you work hard and you are right for the job AND you have a doctorate, they should compensate you right. What doesn’t make any sense is that if they always offer people low salaries, they aren’t ever going to get the cream of the crop. So does that mean I am not the cream of the crop?!?

Really, what I want is a job in Santa Rosa. I want to break free of Sacramento.

  1. Go for it. I’m currently reaching for more money from the opposite side of things. I don’t have my degree yet and I’m aiming to get a new job with a substantial increase in pay - due to experience/potential/BS’ing my skills since I won’t have even my bachelor’s degree until around May next year.

But obviously, I don’t work in the same field you do - so none of the jobs I’m going for will ever ask for my GPA.

  2. So if you get a raise, won’t that make it harder to leave for a job in Santa Rosa? I’ve been saying the same thing (minus the doctor part) about my job, but really, it’s not going to make me any happier…although I might be able to impress you with some cute new shoes more often!
Hope to see you Thursday for some Ka-Boom! action.
    xoxo
