While I was on vacation

So I took the last week off… plus the Friday before the week…

It was glorious. Seriously unbelievably glorious.

My first task of the vacation was to take some of the most beautiful silk I have ever laid hands on and make curtains for two very lovely friends. On her trip to Cambodia, she decided to grab all of the silk she could to cover her windows and I offered up my skillz. It was a great experience…

This is the brilliant purple that she picked for her room.

In the living room, I made two sets of curtains from these colors:

My homework is to make curtains for their dining area using these fabrics:

And my compensation? (Besides having a wonderful time with them while I was sewing.) These:

I was on vacation

I had been doing so well keeping the posts in the pipeline. But last week I was off. And my whole world fell into a “me living in the real world” kind of trance. I was mostly disconnected from my phone, the Internet, and this blog.

But I’m back. And I have some sewing stories to share and a sweet potato recipe to die for.

I’m ready for the weeks ahead!

Advent Bags

Twenty five bags in 5 hours. Not bad, if you ask me. I borrowed the Cricut cutter from Nancy and she had just bought new sticky mats. My original plan was to cut the numbers by hand, but with all the stick of the mat, I decided to throw a piece of fabric on there to see if it would cut. And it did! That shaved off a bunch of time.

I made the bags from muslin, cheap and easy to work with. I made a double fold edge at the top of each bag, then finished the sides with French seams so that there were no raw edges.

I ironed on the numbers and that was it! Now Miss M will have advent gift bags for years to come. And once she is done with them, hopefully they will get handed down.

Confessions of a Crafter

1. I am listening to Christmas music this morning. In my defense, I am making Christmas things this morning.

2. I like Advent calendars and I am
Super excited to be making these for my friend’s little girl, Miss M.

More to come on these bags tomorrow…

REMINDER: SPIRIT HOUSE DESIGNS!

Hey! Instead of my usual chatter, let me just take this opportunity to remind you that Alicia is having a studio sale this Saturday… at her studio. A prelude to the Davis Art Center Holiday sale. If you are interested, just contact me and I will get you the information.

I can’t wait to get my hands on some of her stuff! And I can’t wait to see you there!

Inspiration: Fall Leaves

It must be from when I was kid. I can remember, like probably every kid from the midwest can, rolling around in the giant pile of leaves that either you or your parent has just raked into a neat little pile. I don’t ever remember worrying about bugs or dirt. I just remember loving it. Loving the colors. And even though I can pick out an orange and teal combo like the best of them, I also have just as much of a desire to go for the rich browns, reds, oranges, and yellows of the season.

Apparently I am not the only one inspired by fall.
