Tasting $300 of wine at work.

I love my job sometimes. Like on days like today. My “boss” came in and said that he was going to go to this special tasting at one of his client’s wineries. And I said, “You know, you really should have a designated driver.” And he said, “Well, my wife is at home with my sick son… would you like to go with me?”

And I did!

And I tasted $300 worth of premium chardonnay, pinot noir, and syrah. And I talked to one of the owners, the winemaker, and the assistant winemaker. I also got to meet a few more people in the same business as my “boss”. It was really fantastic.

Just another case of the right place at the right time.

The funny thing is…

So I was so freaked out about not getting any work done before my meeting with my advisor. But then I got an email last night around 10 saying that his trip home got botched and that he was going to have to cancel his meetings today.

Being the diligent student that I am… and having already traveled in to see him today, I asked if I could see him this afternoon around 5. But I am now hoping that he says that he can’t and that we should just meet over the phone on Friday.

But with this gift, I am going to take today and work my little butt off and see how far I can get. It has been an hour since I sat down and really started working, and I have already made a lot of progress. I think I am going to head over to the library to do some research.

Writing my dissertation is kind of like exercising. When I do it, it feels so good. But for some reason it takes a hell of a lot to get me to work on it.

The Mommy’s Playgroup

I seriously went so that I could play with the kids and hang out with the moms, who are friends of mine. And one of them owns a business with her husband. They need some help with their business… mostly data entry and taking care of things around the office. I happen to need a job. So I start on Monday morning. Isn’t life kind of crazy like that? I should go to these playgroups more often.

Our “quiet” neighbor

Apparently our neighbor, although quiet in most aspects of his life, is painfully loud when he is banging women. Now I don’t know anything about him. I don’t even know if he is attractive or if he has a girlfriend. But Winemonkey was jolted awake last night with their antics in the room above ours. This was precisely why I didn’t want to have upstairs or downstairs neighbors.

But he is moving out so hopefully we won’t be stuck with another “quiet” neighbor.

My first celebrity…

After meeting with my new landlords, I finally made it over to see Christopher Moore promote his new book. It was everything I wanted and more. He was so funny, what with his “beta male theory” and awesome sense of humor. He signed my first edition of Practical Demonkeeping and my copy of his new book, A Dirty Job. The picture is crappy… but that is because who really charges their camera batteries before they go and meet someone famous? Apparently I don’t. I have my camera handy to take pictures of random flowers or my craft projects, but I don’t have it prepared when I meet someone famous.

I am only one chapter into his new book because I wanted to finish the Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove before I moved on. Anyway – If he is ever in your area, he is a quirky speaker who is really funny. And his books? Fabulous.

Moving on up…

That’s right. I am moving on up. Two a two bedroom apartment in Santa Rosa. Ironically, I didn’t take pictures of the kitchen, but it was HUGE. It was in an inconvenient spot in town, but Winemonkey and I think that we can find ways around the traffic. It has granite countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. It had a large garage. The laundry was on the inside. And… it has a fireplace.

I am pretty excited. There were pros and cons to both places and to be honest they pretty much had the same tally. In the place we are taking there will be more time spent inside. The other place had a huge yard and a nice deck. But this place is way more modern. Anyway… We aren’t moving until after April 1st. But after that, there will be pictures!

Now I just have to find movers. =)
